Kanye Records Conversation with Taylor Swift, May Face Charges

Kim Kardashian snapchatted a phone conversation that took place between her husband, Kanye West, and Taylor Swift. Amongst the social media firestorm, questions have been raised over whether privacy laws were violated when Kim and Kanye recorded the conversation without informing Taylor.

California, where the recording took place, is a two-party consent state, meaning any recording must have the consent of both parties. In this case, it was up to Kanye West to inform Taylor that the conversation was being recorded [1,2].

If convicted of a misdemeanor Kim and Kanye, both involved in the recording, could spend up to one year in county jail and/or a $2,500 fine. It is unlikely that prosecutors will take up the case based on the severity of the issue [1].
