Oakland County Theft Crimes Defense Attorney
What Are Michigan’s Theft Crime Penalties?
Theft is a broad term which encompasses many different crimes, from shoplifting to embezzlement and everything in between. The Michigan penal code has sections that address the theft of particular items or products, including copper and silver ore, vehicles, credit cards, and financial information. Other sections outline punishments based on the value of the property stolen.
A theft offense can be categorized as a misdemeanor or a felony in Michigan. Felonies are more serious and can mean harsher punishments if the charges are not overturned or reduced.
